Nomination for 2nd Birder Murder

I just received confirmation that my second Bob White Birder Murder, "Murder on Warbler Weekend," has been nominated for the 2009 Minnesota Book Award. That makes it two for two, since the first book in the series "The Boreal Owl Murder" received a nomination last year. Finalists will be announced in February.

This coming March is shaping up to be an interesting marketing month for me. The first weekend of the month I'll be at the International Owl Festival in Houston, MN. Last year's event was delightful, so I'm looking forward to meeting birders and signing books there again. For the last weekend in the month, I've been invited to come speak and sign books at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN. I haven't visited the new center there yet ...more...

Third time’s the charm…

I don't know how reliable that old saying proves, but I do know that I'm thrilled to be named a finalist for the 2008 Midwest Book Award for "The Boreal Owl Murder." I learned this week that the novel had been nominated, which along with its earlier nominations for the Minnesota Book Awards and the Northeast Minnesota Book Awards, makes a trio of honors for my debut mystery. Another nomination

I just received word that The Boreal Owl Murder has been nominated for the Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards, presented by the University of Minnesota Duluth Library and Friends of the Duluth Public Library in collaboration with Lake Superior Writers. How exciting! Books in the competition represent northeastern Minnesota in the areas of history, culture, heritage, or lifestyle - I guess all those long weekends I've spent in Two Harbors seeped right into my writing. Of course, the fact that you can only find Boreal Owls up north certainly influenced the book's setting. Actually, that's one of the things that makes writing Birder Murders so much fun for me - since birds are found in certain spots, I get to explore different pieces of Minnesota with each new Bob White mystery ...more...
