I don’t know how reliable that old saying proves, but I do know that I’m thrilled to be named a finalist for the 2008 Midwest Book Award for “The Boreal Owl Murder.” I learned this week that the novel had been nominated, which along with its earlier nominations for the Minnesota Book Awards and the Northeast Minnesota Book Awards, makes a trio of honors for my debut mystery. Another nomination

I just received word that The Boreal Owl Murder has been nominated for the Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards, presented by the University of Minnesota Duluth Library and Friends of the Duluth Public Library in collaboration with Lake Superior Writers. How exciting! Books in the competition represent northeastern Minnesota in the areas of history, culture, heritage, or lifestyle – I guess all those long weekends I’ve spent in Two Harbors seeped right into my writing. Of course, the fact that you can only find Boreal Owls up north certainly influenced the book’s setting. Actually, that’s one of the things that makes writing Birder Murders so much fun for me – since birds are found in certain spots, I get to explore different pieces of Minnesota with each new Bob White mystery ...more...

Exciting News!

I just learned that “The Boreal Owl Murder” has been nominated for the annual Minnesota Book Awards! Finalists will be selected in early February, and the winners are announced in April. What a wonderful surprise, especially since I never aspired to any kind of recognition when I first began developing the concept of this Bob White Birder Murder Mystery series. All I wanted to do was write an entertaining book that captured the pleasure and fun of the birding life. Having readers that enjoy the series is the best reward of all!
